Three-star Ja’Vier Francis transfers to Montverde Academy

Three-star center Ja’Vier Francis will be leaving the city of Houston and transferring to the highly-regarded prep school Montverde Academy in Florida to play a national schedule.

“I feel like they can develop me not just as a player, but as a young man because I will be by myself out there,” says Francis. “As a basketball player, they can help me reach my potential. The proof is in the multiple national championships they have won over the years.”

A 6-foot-8 forward, Francis’ stock has risen due to his explosion, energy, and enthusiasm in running the floor, rebounding, protecting the rim, and finishing with flare above it. He has picked up offers from DePaul, Iona, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Oral Roberts, and Tulsa since the start of quarantine. But according to Francis, DePaul, Iona, and Houston are the main schools prioritizing him at the moment.

FROM JA’VIER’S POINT OF VIEW

DePaul: “Every time I see my buddy (four-star DePaul commit), Keon Edwards, he always tells me about DePaul. He said the coaches are chill and do not waste their time when their players are not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Their staff treats me like family. They call me every single day. I just love them.”

Iona: “I like the staff because they treat me like family. Ever since they offered me, they have been talking to me every single day. They watch my games and we discuss ways on how I can get better as a player.”

Houston: “I love how their program plays with effort. They play hard every chance they get and I play hard every time I get the chance too. That is the main thing  the staff and I talk about.”

BOTTOM LINE

Francis says location will not play a major factor in his decision. He just wants to play at a school that gives him the best opportunity to develop. As of now, look for Houston to be the favorite. However, it would not surprise me if other schools entered the mix due to Francis playing on a national stage.

With Francis being young for his class, there is a very small chance that the talented big man reclassifies back to 2022. But as of now, he is mainly focusing on the upcoming season playing with the Eagles of Montverde.
